Greetings fellow massage therapists. I'm Clint Knox and this is my first correspondence to the masses, as President of Massage New Zealand (MNZ), YOUR professional organisation. Due to personal circumstances, Teresa has stepped into the Vice President role that I previously filled, and I'm here writing to you as President.
The time I have spent in the MNZ executive committee up to date has been a great stepping stone into this position, learning of the detail behind what we have as our professional body. I would like to take this moment to thank all previous MNZ members, committee members and staff in all positions for getting us where we are today, a task that no one really understands until in behind the scenes! I would also like to thank the current team steering MNZ, as it's been a pleasure to meet and work with people with drive and passion for our profession and its members. It's a great time to be involved with you lot of awesome people that have superb skills and experience.
My workload has increased due to joining the MNZ executive committee and then filling the President role, but it is still very similar to what might occur in a massage clinic situation daily. It's not scary (yet!) but rather exciting as we get opportunities to network, make great new contacts and get exposed to experiences/interactions that may never have occurred. I believe everyone can benefit from looking at how MNZ exists and functions behind the scenes, it's more like a truckload of free personal/professional development that was not advertised! We are currently looking to fill two roles in the executive committee, which I'm positive to be allocated post AGM, so get in quick if you are interested or at least show us your interest so we can organise some "work experience" behind the scenes to provide future growth for MNZ.
A few bits and pieces have "popped" up recently in the busy lives of all and I think it's a timely reminder that we are all human and it seems a very busy period for most. Organisationally we have no one in a full time role and tasks are being attended to as time/energy and life permits. If it feels like messages aren't getting through or there is some urgency to the actions required, please be clear about this in correspondence via the appropriate person/contact details found on the website. Please keep in mind that the team helping us all (approx. 450 member's) are very effective at what they do and will help as best possible, given whatever the circumstances and workload at that time. Additionally, I am happy for correspondence to come directly to me if the issue is causing undue stress/worry and we can decide what course of action might make life easier. Everyone is an important member of the organisation and we would like you to feel that way!
On the topic of busy, our conference team have been working hard behind the scenes to provide another opportunity for us to gather, learn, grow as an organisation and individually as therapists. If you know anyone that has previously organised or helped with conference, there is an understanding of the time and effort that goes into this event, great work conference team! Definitely introduce yourself when you see us at conference, it's always good to have a personal connection rather than be seen as a constant cyber person.
Short and sweet from me for my first effort and hoping to have some updates on what is going on within our profession going forward. Take care of yourselves so we continue to be have best people and therapists show casing our profession.
