There are a range of NZQA accredited training providers and courses available in New Zealand. Courses are available through polytechnics and private training institutions.
The list below (in alphabetical order) gives the current NZQA accredited training providers in Massage Therapy. We suggest that you check with training institutions that the course you are interested in is also NZQA accredited, as not all courses are. As of 2017, the minimum NZQA requirement is now a level 5 qualification for those beginning training in Massage Therapy.

NZ Diploma in Wellness and Relaxation Massage Delivered part-time over two years. Study Massage, whilst having the flexibility for life and work commitments.
Components include relaxation massage techniques, advanced massage techniques, sports massage, pregnancy massage, aged care massage, chair massage and hot stone massage, along with anatomy, physiology, business and research skills.
Graduating students will meet the requirements of Massage New Zealand (MNZ) to be Registered Massage Therapists and to enter the Massage Therapy industry with highly valued skills and confidence. Graduates of this diploma gain entry to the NZ Diploma in Remedial Massage (Level 6). |

Bachelor of Therapeutic & Sports Massage Degree (BTSM) Year 3 of the Bachelor of Therapeutic and Sports Massage degree programme increases massage therapists' knowledge and skills, extending their ability in critical/professional/clinical reasoning to manage complex soft tissue rehabilitation. After successful completion of the Diploma L6 or the BTSM year 2, students can apply to enrol in to year 3 of the BTSM. Graduates are critical thinking, reflective practitioners with technical and professional competence, sound reasoning and research literacy. They have a capacity to manage knowledge and its acquisition during their working lives. Post Graduate Degree Programmes and Master of Applied Health Sciences (Wellness and Rehabilitation) Successful completion of the BTSM degree will allow graduates to apply for entry into Postgraduate degree Level 8 & 9 programmes. Students will learn the principles of anatomy and physiology and apply this knowledge to wellness & relaxation massage therapy practice. They will gain hands-on experience in our modern clinic, practising massage techniques on each other, as well as clients. Students will also learn professional skills to meet client and industry needs. Massage academic staff are qualified with extensive industry experience, enabling students to learn best practice in preparation for graduating. Students will graduate with the skills and knowledge to provide wellness and relaxation massage therapy services. They will also meet the requirements of Massage New Zealand (MNZ) to be a Registered Massage Therapist. This programme is a prerequisite course for students who wish to pathway on to becoming remedial massage therapists. |

This course runs as an online and block program with theory occurring online and practicals occurring at specific times during the year to accommodate those already working at a level 5. Remedial massage clinics are organised on site for students to achieve their industry supervised hours. Students in this programme will learn to work within the scope of practice defined by remedial massage, as well as wellness and relaxation massage. Areas include Pathology, Neuromuscular therapy, Injury prevention and rehabilitation, massage for performance and includes clinical placement and practice. |
