Massage New Zealand launches new website

On 30th August 2016, Massage New Zealand (MNZ) launched its new website.  The site aims to provide the public with up to date information on massage therapy, educate people about the benefits of massage therapy for health and wellness, inform them about the benefits of choosing an MNZ Massage Therapist, and support the public to access high quality massage therapy through an online, searchable Find A Therapist directory.

The new website also provides information for people considering a career in massage therapy, including details of NZQA accredited massage therapy education providers, as well as information for students studying massage therapy and a Member’s Only area, where MNZ members can access a wide range of information, resources and tools to help them in their practice and business.

MNZ is the only massage therapy specific membership body in New Zealand for professional Massage Therapists. Massage therapy in New Zealand is an unregulated profession. That means that anybody can set up shop as a Massage Therapist without any qualifications or experience. This can pose a risk for the public if therapists have no formal training, have insufficient knowledge of anatomy and physiology, or are unaware of when massage should be avoided or modified for certain health conditions. The New Zealand public need to be aware that if they are letting someone massage them, it is important that they know the person is trained to do so safely. MNZ registered therapists choose to belong to a self-regulating professional body which upholds professional and ethical standards in massage therapy practice, has requirements for continuing professional development (CPD), supports and connects members, and encourages members to keep up to date with industry developments and massage therapy research. This means that the public can be reassured that MNZ therapists listed on their Find a Therapist directory are appropriately trained and qualified to provide massage therapy.
