Why its important to choose an MNZ registered Massage Therapist
Massage New Zealand (MNZ) is the only massage therapy specific membership body in New Zealand for professional Massage Therapists. Our purpose is to promote massage therapy and the ongoing development of the massage industry in New Zealand through educating the public about the benefits of massage therapy for health and wellness and supporting the public to access high quality massage therapy through our database of MNZ registered Massage Therapists.
Massage therapy in New Zealand is an unregulated profession. That means that anybody can set up shop as a massage therapist without any qualifications or experience. MNZ registered therapists choose to belong to a self-regulating professional body which upholds professional and ethical standards in massage therapy practice, supports and connects members, and enables members to keep up to date with industry developments and massage therapy research.
MNZ encourages the public to choose MNZ registered Massage Therapists. That way they can be reassured that their Massage Therapist has achieved industry-approved qualification(s), competence, experience, and that they are committed to high standards of practice and professionalism. MNZ has a Code of Ethics and sets out scopes of practice that it requires its members to abide by. It also requires members to update their skills frequently through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.
There are a number of reasons to choose an MNZ registered Massage Therapist. These include:
High standardsMassage New Zealand members follow the MNZ Code of Ethics, as well as adhering to the Health and Disability Commissioner’s Code of Rights. This means MNZ members adhere to high ethical standards regarding their interactions with clients.
EducatedMNZ members have completed NZQA approved or equivalent courses of study in massage therapy relevant to their registration level. If a member has completed their training at a non-NZQA or foreign training college, MNZ will assess the training through a recognition of prior learning (RPL) process.
Professional developmentMNZ members are required to engage in 20 hours of continuing professional development per year. This may be hands on or theoretical training in any discipline relevant to a therapist’s practice.
ConnectedMNZ therapists are connected with one another and with the global massage therapy community. Members can attend networking meetings, connect with each other through the members only area of the MNZ website and are presented with many professional development and upskilling opportunities through MNZ.
