Professional Development Requirements

All registered members of Massage New Zealand, (RMTs and CMTs), are required to undertake continuing professional development (PD). RMTs need to accrue 80 points during every two year membership period, while CMTs need to accrue 40 points. Half of this quota needs to be in hands-on training. The purpose of this continuing education requirement, is to encourage continued life long professional growth and learning for members that includes, but is not limited to further massage training. By completing the ongoing education requirement, members also meet growing demands from the public for improved practitioner competency and accountability. What Professional Development options are available to you? There are a number of activities massage therapists can do to fulfill the PD requirements including:

• Attend MNZ organized events such as the annual conference
• Attend workshops and extended massage training qualifications
• Attend courses related to business, professional development and business technology
• Complete a self directed learning activity
• Teach massage courses
• Volunteer
• Publish an article about massage therapy

The policy giving a full list of the options available is forwarded to members and found in the members-only area on the website.
